Definitely looking forward to seeing everyone. Thought that business was gonna keep me away from this one, but once in awhile things work out...

Here goes: after graduation, got the golden opportunity to be babysat by Uncle Sam for 4 years at the Air Force Academy. Great experiences, great people, but not totally sure I'd do that one again. Went there with the plan of becoming a USAF pilot, but despite a fairly monstrous effort, was denied a waiver to enter pilot training due to lack of "stereoscopic vision," "the needs of the Air Force," and just plain lousy timing. After graduation from the Academy and before hanging up the blue uniform I got a few interesting assignments, with the final one being a two year stint helping design the F-22 Raptor. While on that program, I got the joy of becoming a Dad - still the best job I've ever had. My daughter Ronnie Beth is now 11 years old, happy, getting super grades and kicking tail in soccer... and teasing her old man about thinning hair......

Professionally, I enjoyed the AF a ton, but it wasn't going to be a lifetime thing. So like a lot of our classmates, I chucked a pretty good deal and started over. The skies called, and I wanted to fly airplanes, not design 'em. The really short version is that I survived a really bad situation while flying a beautiful old airplane, caught a lucky break in that a passenger on that flight was good friends with the chief pilot of a fast growing Boeing 727 airline. That guy was decent or dumb enough to hire me, and I built a ton of jet time in a big hurry. A few years later, FedEx decided to grow their operation again, and I jumped at the chance to see the world from a pretty spectacular window seat. Am currently flying the MD-11 (a glass cockpit DC-10 on steroids), and to date, haven't crashed on any South Pacific islands. Knock on wood. See you this weekend.
