Bio
July 21, 2006
Remember when we used to think people in their thirties were old? Geez, that's us now! I don't know if it's denial or what, but it is hard for me to believe that it has been 20 years since we graduated from high school and had the world at our fingertips.
Well, after that day in June of 1986, I went to Auburn University (War Eagle!) where joined a sorority (Phi Mu), was a fraternity little sister (Sigma Chi), was the editor of the sports section of our student newspaper, tailgated in true southern fashion, lived and breathed Auburn football and went to classes where I majored in Journalism. Karen Woltersdorf Hummel and I were roommates our senior year and have great memories of all the fun we had. Then it was time for the "real" world.
I came back to Alexandria and began to teach aerobics classes until I decided what I really wanted to do when I grew up. I decided to fly the friendly skies and became a flight attendant for United Airlines. I was based out of Washington and flew both domestic and some international flights. I got to see some pretty amazing places during my 4 1/2 years of traveling the world-everything from exploring a rain forest in Costa Rica, to roaming the streets of Italy, to almost being highjacked in Miami.
But after a while I decided that career wasn't for me, so I applied to nursing school at NOVA. I graduated and became an RN in May of 1997 and worked at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital as a medical-surgical nurse. In the fall of '97, I began the masters program at George Mason University. I worked part- time at the hospital and went to school part-time. I graduated with my masters degree in Nursing in August of 2000. During the time I was working and in school, I began dating someone special. I never imagined that Christian Petretich, the boy who I went to the eighth grade prom with, would be the one to introduce me to my husband, but life is funny that way sometimes.
The month after I graduated from GMU, I got married to Michael Pagliaro (Pags), with CP as one of the groom's men and his wife, Sara, as my matron of honor. I continued working at Mt. Vernon and after a while, I became the Diabetes Educator for the hospital. On August 27, 2002, Pags and I welcomed our son Jake to our family. He is a funny, smart boy who loves to play with his trains. In 2003, I went to Inova Fairfax Hospital where I was the Clinical Nurse Specialist for the Inova Diabetes Center. Sept. 7, 2004, Luke Pagliaro, our second son, was born. He is almost two years old now and he is all boy. He loves to run and play and of course, terrorize his big brother.
Another job change came in November of 2005- I became a school nurse for the City of Alexandria. I work over at Patrick Henry Elementary School and love it. It gives me more time to spend with my own children because the hours are great, and I get holidays and summers off! Looking back at the last 20 years makes me realize what a fun-filled, life-changing, sometimes difficult, but always interesting journey it has been. I look forward to seeing everyone in October!
